How do we prepare our pupils for adult life?

As well as preparing our pupils for transition at key points in their school life, we also provide a range of opportunities to prepare them for adult life including:

All Year 5 pupils take part in a trip to Skillszone which is a safety education centre in Gloucester. It is a state-of-the-art life size village which is a fully interactive learning environment to teach people of all ages how to recognise dangerous situations and stay safe. There are 16 zones, which will cover a range of scenarios including road, rail and water safety, an internet cafe, as well as opportunities to cover home and personal safety.

All pupils take part in Relationships and Sex Education sessions as part of the Key Stage 2 RSE curriculum.  Parents are informed of this first and children are given the choice to withdraw from the sessions.  These sessions may be adapted as necessary for pupils with SEND.

As part of the curriculum, we also include the following as preparation for adult life:

  • Career Aspirations Week - providing the opportunity for children to start thinking about what they might want to be in the future and to learn about pathways into a variety of careers
  • Financial Education
  • Mental Health awareness sessions - led by Young Minds Matter
  • Healthy Lifestyles sessions
