English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Tredworth Junior School
EAL VISION
Tredworth Junior School is proud to serve a vibrant and diverse community, where approximately 50% of our pupils speak English as an Additional Language (EAL), representing more than 32 different languages spoken within our school community. We celebrate our rich cultural diversity and view multilingualism as a strength that enriches our school environment.
We recognise that many of our learners arrive with limited or no English proficiency and that language barriers can present significant challenges to accessing the curriculum and fully engaging in school life, so we understand that developing strong language skills is essential for their academic success and personal growth.
Our approach to supporting EAL pupils is holistic, aiming not only to develop English language skills but also to nurture each child's confidence, identity, and sense of belonging. We aim to provide adapted support that meets learners at their individual starting points, accelerating their language acquisition and enabling full participation in all aspects of school life.
Through culturally responsive teaching, and targeted interventions, we strive to create an empowering environment where EAL pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This policy is designed to guide all staff in delivering effective, inclusive education that recognises and celebrates the unique strengths and challenges of EAL learners, ensuring they are confident and successful members of both our school community and the wider world.
